I am a highly experienced journalist and marketing strategist with over 20 years in corporate communications, employee engagement, and customer experience marketing.

 

Throughout my career, I have successfully developed and delivered strategic initiatives that enhance reputations, foster stakeholder loyalty, drive change management, and improve employee engagement and performance.

An accomplished and versatile communications professional, my expertise spans a wide range of disciplines - from crafting compelling corporate narratives and copywriting to developing award-winning strategies and campaigns. My track record of success extends across the construction, housing, healthcare, and charity sectors.

 

With a background in advertising, public relations, journalism, and brand marketing, I bring extensive experience from senior roles in both in-house and agency environments. I have led and delivered high-impact projects across national, EMEA, and global markets, consistently achieving results that drive business growth and engagement.

I am a dedicated, collaborative, and supportive team player with strong leadership and team management capabilities. Comfortable advising senior executive teams, I excel at building and nurturing relationships at all levels.

While my core experience lies in the built environment and medical sectors, my broad understanding of corporate challenges and my ability to deliver for diverse, complex organisations, has allowed me to apply my skills effectively across various industries, including entertainment, government, and consumer goods.

Gosling Creative

Client Partner, Corporate Communications and ESG / DE&I Specialist

Gosling Creative is a strategic and highly creative agency that delivers campaigns and on-going communications for its clients in the medical devices and healthcare sector.

My work supports its clients' corporate ESG and DE&I objectives, delivering strategic marketing communications across national, EMEA, and global audiences.

I also use my experience in writing compelling copy for its clients, and in providing direction in support of the agency's own growth plans and business objectives. This includes business development and presentations, and providing consultancy and support to its Directors and people, such as mentoring and strategic planning.

Karibu Community Homes / Inquilab Housing Association

Head of Marketing & Communications

As a strategic consultant and hands-on communications specialist, my work for this London-based BME housing association includes the development of its three-year marketing and communications strategy in support of its long-term Corporate Plan and business improvement programmes.

 

Instrumental to the strategy is improving resident engagement and satisfaction. This includes the development of new channels and digital platforms to better inform and connect with its stakeholders, and to promote the Association's purpose to provide quality housing and services that its residents trust and value, while developing sustainable, cohesive, communities.

A key deliverable has been the development and launch of a new website and embedding communications and brand best practice across the organisation.

In 2019, the Wates Group launched its new Guiding Framework which set out the company’s goals, it’s purpose, and the behaviours that would be pivotal to its success. During this time I worked within the Sustainability team to embed the principles of the Guiding Framework and to develop the long term strategies for Health & Safety, Wellbeing, Environment, Community, and Sustainable Innovation that support it. Key elements included influencing and managing key stakeholders, developing and delivering supporting communications and engagement programmes, and evaluating and reviewing performance against the strategic goals.

 

During my eight year career at Wates I also led the company’s internal communications and brand team having been promoted from Group Communications Manager in May 2014. In these roles I worked closely with the CEO and Director of Strategy to develop and implement integrated communications in support of the Group’s ambitious growth and transformation programmes.

Highlights, achievements and key areas of responsibility included:

  • Leading communications on change management, ESG, and acquisition integration, including the acquisition of the Shepherd Group in 2016. 

  • Developing and launching the company’s ambitious five-year environment strategy and supporting marketing campaign.

  • Reviewing and developing existing strategy on sustainable product innovation and growing Wates’ portfolio of innovation partners to support low-carbon, energy-efficient, buildings.

  • Sitting on the company's Wellbeing Development Board, and co-authoring its first-ever Wellbeing Strategy

  • Launching the company’s five year H&S strategy and award-winning campaign which saw the business achieve its goal of Zero Harm a year early (2020) and with a 98% engagement score.

  • Undertaking a full brand audit and review, and leading / managing the subsequent redesign / launch of a new, modern, identity for the Wates Group.​

  • Overseeing all group-wide communication to ensure relevancy, accuracy, consistency, and clear messaging. In a 2017 communications audit Wates achieved an ‘outstanding’ score of >80%.​

  • Managing leadership communications, preparing CEO messages and advising on all aspects of CEO leadership communication / cascade. In 2017 the [then] CEO received the industry’s highest accolade of ‘CEO of the Year’.

  • Managing budgets and resources to deliver an active calendar of events including the launch of 'The Chairman's Awards', the company's annual Roadshow, and Leadership conferences.​

  • Reviewing and developing internal communications channels and the subsequent launch of social media channels and a new group-wide intranet.

  • Advising on community engagement initiatives, Wates family philanthropic activities, and charity partnerships resulting in record fundraising and employee (volunteering) engagement.

Some of my career highlights and achievements from the above include:

 

  • Establishing my own consultancy [Link PR] as a result of having a young family. I was proud to have been awarded the Sanyo contract, with further clients including BAM Construct, Nexus Media, the Department of Trade & Industry, and Pentana Software Group.

  • Launch of social media channels for BAM, the first in the construction industry to embrace social media as a marketing tool. Also a first for the company and industry was the introduction of a community engagement and employee volunteering programme as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility strategy.

  • Increasing funding through strategic corporate partnerships and developing a marketing and media profile for KidsOut resulting in record fundraising levels and the launch of a new, fun, identity for the charity.

  • Nine-year (in-house) career with Sanyo during which time I rolled out a major global rebrand for the company, introduced internal communications, and delivered award-winning media relations.

Skills &
TRAINING

In my early career I was fortunate to be mentored by an accomplished BBC Journalist whilst undertaking in-house training at Carl Byoir & Associates (UK's third largest Public Relations Consultancy at that time). I also undertook APPA [Advertising Press Production Association Diploma] post-college with Benton Bowles Advertising Agency, achieving a distinction in press production.

Further training and education includes:

  • Foundation Journalism with NTCJ and Creative Writing Diploma

  • Counselling (psychotherapy) and Business Studies Diploma
